Our Year 12 student, Rebecca J, was disappointed about the amount of rubbish dropped around the school site, not just because of the amount of work it creates for our Site Management team! She is now on a real mission to reduce littering at CHS and educate students about why this is important, not just for us but for our wider community and the planet.
Rebecca has put together a great assembly that will be shown to every student in form time, which looks at the impact of littering on wildlife and the environment. She also addresses the negative impact on people's mental health of being surrounded by litter and reminded students of the level of fines that can be imposed on anyone caught littering in the streets.
Rebecca closes her assembly with a short video that reminds us of the real cost of littering:
To help students really engage with this issue and keep the anti-littering message front of mind, Rebecca is also running a poster competition with some great prizes! Students have been challenged to design an impactful anti-littering poster that will be reproduced and displayed all around school to help remind everyone to put their rubbish safely in the nearest bin. There are first, second and third place prizes of £20, £15 and £10 in Amazon vouchers up for grabs as a reward for the most effective posters. Closing date for entries is Monday 20 June.
