In November, twelve of our Sixth Form Mathematicians travelled to the University of Warwick for 'Maths in Action', a day of workshops and lectures, which really helped to expand students' Maths knowledge and understanding, whilst introducing them to the wide range of careers opened up by studying the subject.
Throughout the day, students were able to learn how Maths can be used in so many different ways, from fighting disease to video games and magic! They really enjoyed hearing from the following presenters:
- Colin Wright, Mathematician and Juggler - Nim, Officers, and Other Games
- Dr Sara Jabbari, University of Birmingham - Fighting Disease with Mathematics
- Matthew Scroggs, University of Cambridge - Over-analysing Video Games
- Dr Matt Pritchard, Scientist and Magician - Magical Maths
- Sophie Maclean, Mathematician and Communicator - A Prime Puzzle
