We were over the moon to hear that a team of our students have been named as the North West winners of the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) CyberFirst Girls Competition. The NCSC is part of the UK’s intelligence and cyber agency, GCHQ.
A record-breaking 12,500 girls in 3,600 teams from 750 schools took part in the competition, making it the biggest to date. Teams used a range of cyber skills to compete in code cracking, decrypting messages and solving puzzles.
The competition aims to encourage girls aged 12-13 to consider pursuing an interest in technology and introduce them the idea of a career in cyber, where women currently make up just 17%.
A huge well done to our winning team, put forward by our Maths faculty: Year 8 students, Sophie C, Lauren W, Lydia H and Tilly B.
The winning teams from each of the 12 regions have been invited to a celebration day and grand prize dinner in March.
