Nine of our A Level Chemists visited global chemical specialists, Innospec, in Ellesmere Port in September. In the different labs they saw the process to develop fuel additives in the chemical industry.
In preparation for their visit, students had made a sodium chloride solution from their own calculations. This was tested at Innospec and the winner was Alasdair N, who had calculated and diluted his sample to the nearest 100mg/L.
In the afternoon students learned about Innospec's global business, the company's degree apprenticeship opportunities and the different roles they recruit for in the business. They also heard from a current Innospec apprentice about the realities of studying of a degree while working.
